21st Century Insurance -- formerly 20th Century Insurance -- was founded in 1958 by Louis W. Foster and began offering auto insurance, mainly in California. Today, 21st Century Insurance sells many lines of insurance, including specialty homeowners insurance, motorcycle insurance and more. 21st Century Insurance was acquired in 2005 by AIG and then sold to Farmers Insurance Group in 2009.
Ameriprise was founded by John Tappan over 125 years ago, with a mission to help Americans achieve their goals. The company was originally called Investors Syndicate. Investing $5 each, he had 1,000 clients. In 2005, Ameriprise Financial became an independent, publicly owned company and Ameriprise Financial renamed American Express Property Casualty Insurance companies to Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance and announced the RiverSource brand.
