Today, 21st Century Insurance sells many lines of insurance, including specialty homeowners insurance, motorcycle insurance and more. 21st Century Insurance was acquired in 2005 by AIG and then sold to Farmers Insurance Group in 2009.
National General Insurance, formerly GMAC Insurance Group, is the only insurer in the United States to be founded within the automotive industry. The company’s history began in 1920, in North Carolina, when Integon, a life insurance company, was founded: One part of the company became National General Insurance and the second was Motor Insurance Company, founded in 1925, by General Motors.
