The company’s history began in 1920, in North Carolina, when Integon, a life insurance company, was founded: One part of the company became National General Insurance and the second was Motor Insurance Company, founded in 1925, by General Motors. In the year 1969, Integon started a holding company and began insuring high-risk drivers and by 1997, the company was acquired by GMAC. By 2013, GMAC changed its name to National General Insurance. Today, the National General Insurance Group is one of the largest automobile insurers in the United States, offering a variety of property and casualty products. The company operates and sells its insurance products through over 10,000 independent agents and brokers across the US.
