Encova Insurance Company was formed when two companies, Motorists Insurance Group and Brickstreet, merged and rebranded as one company in 2019. With combined insights from decades of industry experience, Motorists Insurance Group and BrickStreet together sell auto, commercial, home, and life insurance products and pushing innovation for their agents and policyholders.

Motorists Insurance Group was founded in 1928 by Carl Crispin and Vic Donahey, along with four other businessmen, who shared philosophy of putting their policyholders first. Brickstreet was established in 2006 as West Virginia’s first private workers’ compensation carrier. Both companies sold insurance products through independent insurance agents, who now continue to write insurance policies for Encova.

Encova is now a super-regional carrier, writing premiums in 29 states and ranking in the top 20 mutual companies in the United States. The company is represented by more than 17,000 independent agents in more than 2,000 agencies across the country. Encova’s community efforts through Motorists Group Foundation include supporting local causes such as helping children succeed, eradicating cancer and supporting industry initiatives.
