About Shelter

Shelter Insurance company is a mutual insurance company that focuses on auto, property, business and life insurance. In, when the company was founded and called MFA Mutual Insurance Company. Its focus was to provide farmers access to reliable insurance protection at prices that they could afford.

The company’s growth and expansion over the years resulted in an increased product portfolio and by 1959, MFA Life Insurance Company was founded. Three years later, its sales territory expanded into 9 states across the U.S and by that time it was serving its policyholders through 13 branch claims offices. During the 1970s the company continued to improve its facilities and thousands of people joined the dedication ceremony for MFA Insurance Gardens on the grounds of the headquarters office. Now Shelter Insurance Gardens, the award-winning five-acre gardens became a nice and favorite place for people to relax and enjoy nature.

By 1981, the company developed a new identity, turning away from Missouri Farmers Association and changing its emblem to the “Shield of Shelter” and eventually adopting the new name, Shelter Insurance. The new branding had a positive impact: Shelter Life Insurance reached $2 billion in life insurance and went international, inviting clients worldwide to do business with the company. Today, Shelter Insurance is one of the top regional insurance companies in the country and has more than 1,400 licensed agents covering 15 states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
