Our Thoughts on Allstate Roadside Assistance
Allstate roadside coverage is available in all 50 states with flexible plans based on your coverage needs and budget.
Allstate also sells two plans that include membership in the Allstate Motor Club. Similar to AAA, members will enjoy roadside coverage plus perks, like discounts on rental cars, free vehicle history reports and savings at restaurants, sporting events and more. These plans cost more than the policy add-on — starting at $89 per year — but also carry higher coverage limits, like up to 100 miles of towing.
With all your basic roadside services offered in an affordable package that is available nationwide, we consider Allstate a strong choice for roadside coverage.

What's Included?
All three of Allstate’s roadside coverage plans include tows, battery jumpstarts, fuel delivery and other common roadside services. Purchasing a Roadside Advantage or Elite plan unlocks additional perks, like roadside hazard benefits and RV coverage.
- Service Calls: Allstate will send a technician to help get your car back on the road. You can make four to five annually under the policy add-on (may vary by region). This increases to five service calls annually with the Roadside Advantage and Elite plans.
- Vehicle towing: Allstate will send a contractor to tow your vehicle to a repair shop. Allstate charges a fee for extra miles beyond your plan's limits.
- Battery jumpstarts: Arrange for a mechanic to jumpstart a dead battery.
- Flat-tire changes: Allstate will send a technician to switch out a damaged tire with your spare.
- Fuel deliveries: A contractor will deliver gas to you; however, you must pay for fuel.
- Locksmith services: Allstate will send a locksmith to open your car door if you accidentally lock your keys inside.
- Winching and extrication: Winching is the extrication of a car that's inaccessible by a tow truck.
- Trip interruption: Allstate's Roadside Advantage and Elite plans include $1,500 of trip interruption coverage, which will pay for repair costs and even meals and lodging if your car breaks down mid-road trip.
- Motorcycle and RV coverage: Purchasing the Roadside Elite plan will include roadside coverage for your motorcycle and RV.
- Roadside hazard benefit: Allstate will reimburse you for tire repair or replacement costs if your tire is damaged from a covered road hazard. Not available in Massachusetts.
What's Not Included?
Roadside coverage through Allstate will not cover drivers for the following scenarios:
- Services for persons or vehicles that aren't listed under your plan: Allstate roadside plans follow the vehicle, not the person. You can't use your roadside assistance to cover another person's vehicle that isn't on your plan.
- Services beyond your plan's limit: Allstate's plans don't cover services beyond coverage limits, such as extra towing costs.
Allstate Motor Club Discounts and Benefits
While the policy endorsement is cheaper, the Roadside Advantage or Elite plan will include membership in the Allstate Motor Club and the following perks:
- Rental car upgrades, discounts and free rental days
- Free CARFAX vehicle history reports
- Discounted oil changes and auto parts
- Discounts to restaurants, spa visits, gym memberships, dry cleaning and more
- Discounted event tickets for movies, sporting events, amusement parks and more

By using the mobile app, signing up online or calling a Farmers agent, you can purchase Allstate roadside coverage in three different ways:
- Add a roadside coverage endorsement to your Allstate car insurance policy.

Pros and Cons of Allstate Roadside Assistance
SmartFinancial praises Allstate roadside assistance for its affordability and flexible membership levels. However, there are some drawbacks that drivers should bear in mind.
Pros |
Cons |
---|---|
Affordable |
No services for vehicles that aren't covered by Allstate roadside assistance plans. |
Flexible membership levels |
|
All basic roadside assistance services |
|
Non-Allstate customers can purchase memberships |
Pros
- Affordable: Allstate's roadside policy add-on costs only about $25 per vehicle per year, which is less than $3 per month.
- Flexible membership levels: The policy add-on offers the most basic coverage, which the Roadside Advantage and Elite plans unlock higher coverage limits and additional perks for a higher cost.
- All basic roadside assistance services: Allstate roadside assistance includes coverage for the most common roadside emergency services, including tows, battery jumpstarts and winches.
- Non-Allstate customers can purchase memberships: You don't have to be an Allstate car insurance customer to purchase on-demand roadside assistance. Allstate also allows non-customers to purchase Allstate Roadside Advantage and Elite memberships.
Cons
- No services for vehicles that aren't covered by Allstate roadside assistance plans: Allstate’s roadside coverage add-on or membership plans do not provide services for cars not listed in the policy or contract. For example, you wouldn’t be able to request service while riding in your cousin’s car as a passenger.
Allstate vs. the Competition
Allstate offers similar roadside benefits to competing insurance carriers but at a slightly higher price. Keep in mind that coverage limits may vary by policy and region.
